How much will it cost?

You may be entitled to financial support to help you whilst you learn

If you are thinking about going back to college, but are worried about the costs involved, then read on.

Studying for a new qualification may cost a lot less than you think. There are a range of courses on offer – starting at just a few hours per week – so you should be able to find the right one to suit you and your budget.

You may even be entitled to a grant to help support you whilst you learn.

Adult Learning Grant

If you are over 19 and returning to college to study for your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification, then you may be entitled to receive an Adult Learning Grant of up to £30 a week.

Lisa Snaith, from County Durham, returned to college aged 38 to study for her GCSE's. She successfully applied for an Adult Learning Grant and is now enjoying being back behind a desk at college. “The extra £30 each week has been a fantastic help,” she says. Lisa spends her money on essentials like books, travel and food.

Education Maintenance Allowance

If you are aged between 16 and 19, then you may be entitled to receive an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). With EMA, you can get an extra £30 in your hand to spend each week when you are learning.

Whether it's a future in hairdressing, construction, IT, management, media, engineering, or catering that you're after, you should find the right course and options to suit you.
